Firstly, your video has to be online somewhere. Uploading a small video to WordPress is quite simple and as long as it is able to drop into the Media window of WordPress or upload like an image, the process is a quick one.

What about a large movie file?

The answer to that can be found by uploading the large movie file via an FTP Client like Fillezilla https://filezilla-project.org/ to a folder of your choice providing your Hosting service allows storage big enough for you to do that.

See my post on large files.

However, even when uploaded, a large file takes up a lot of room on the server.

So how about playback?

There is a drawback to playing large videos. That come with what is called video lag. The video cannot download as fast as it is being played and the consequences come apparent pretty quickly.

YouTube

With a YouTube account, files can be uploaded and with just a link, your video fit in and uses the YouTube settings. No lag, no hassle!

Vimeo

Vimeo is the other contender to upload and play videos from.

So don’t try and be the hero to perform amazing coding tricks to run your videos from your website. Simple is best and YouTube and Vimeo coders are teams who have the cutting edge in coding this type of technology.

Enjoy the easiest way to add amazing video content to your website!
